| Mastitis, especially the one caused by Staphylococcus aureus (SA), is a disease quite difficult to treat and to take countermeasures. Many of infected cattle had to be culled out. Meanwhile, as many therapies as available were attempted during the non-milking period, and various countermeasures were taken to improve the rate of renewal. We cannot overlook the fact that these efforts have been gradually taking effect. At the farms where SA-caused potential mastitis has spread, there were an increase in the number of bulk mammary cells and a decrease in the quality of raw milk, which caused a large economic loss (milk disposal, penalty, etc.). Milk producers are thus facing a very difficult farm management situation. |
